EVENT:
[M] Robert Rich In Concert at The Boom Festival near Lake Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal
(in Idanha-a-Nova Municipality, Castelo Branco District, Centro Region, Portuguese Republic, Earth)

TIME(S): 12am / 00:00
DATE(S): Thursday, August 26, 2010

DESCRIPTION:
Across three decades and over 30 albums, Robert Rich has helped define the genres of ambient music, dark-ambient, tribal and trance, yet his music remains hard to categorize. Part of his unique sound comes from using home-made acoustic and electronic instruments, microtonal harmonies, computer-based signal processing, chaotic systems and feedback networks. Rich began building his own analog synthesizers in 1976, when he was 13 years old, and later studied for a year at Stanford’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA).

Robert will be closing out the Boom Festival in Portugal this year on August 26 at the lake of Idanha-a-Nova in the mountains near the Spanish border. He will be starting his set around midnight after August 25, into the morning of the 26th. The set might merge into an improvisation with some of the other musicians at the festival, including perhaps his longtime acquaintance Jacque Dudon, a fellow microtonalist who creates his own optical synthesizers. Ishq and Murcof should also be there, among dozens of others from around the world, so they'll have some cool sounds.
